SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT: Sharks International Symposium 2014

28 Mar 2013 - 08:00

The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board is pleased to confirm that plans are well underway for the second Sharks International symposium in Durban, South Africa on 2-6 June 2014. This is a sequel to the highly successful inaugural Sharks International meeting in Cairns, Australia in June 2010.

The meeting will comprise four full days of presentations, commencing Monday 2 June and ending Friday 6 June, with Wednesday 4 June set aside for a variety of exciting mid-conference excursions. There will be a welcoming cocktail party on Sunday 1 June and the conference will end with a gala dinner on Friday 6 June.

Four prominent shark researchers have agreed to be guest speakers at the conference. They are:

Dr Demian Chapman

Stony Brook University, New York, USA

Dr Dave Ebert

Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, California, USA

Dr Nigel Hussey

University of Windsor, Canada

Dr Colin Simpfendorfer

James Cook University, Townsville, Australia

Posters will be welcome and parallel sessions will be avoided if possible.

There are several excellent convention hotels in the greater Durban area and one of them will be the venue for the conference. Accommodation to suit every budget is available in Durban, which, due to its mild climate and its Indian Ocean beaches, is the most popular holiday destination in South Africa for local residents.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Department of Economic Development and Tourism of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government, registration fees for professionals will not exceed $300 (US) and $250 for students.

Once the meeting venue has been finalised the conference website will go live. In the meantime you can contact us on
